Kiki Melendez to be Awarded The Lupita Achievement Award-2014
Georgia Latino Film Festival Chief Executive Office and Founder Jose Marquez, Chief Marketing Officer and Co- Founder Lance Robinson and the board of advisors announced today that the 2014 Lupita Achievement Award will be awarded to comedienne/Actress/writer/director/producer Kiki Melendez. The 2014 Georgia Latino Film Festival, non-profits arts organization that reaches more than 1,000 annually through GALFF Directors VIP Screening, GALFF Education, and the annual flagship Festival.
The prestigious film festival will take place in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Pacific Convention Center Georgia Pacific Conference Center 133 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta GA and Plaza Fiesta 4166 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30345 the Weekend of from October 17-19. http://www.georgialatinofilmfestival.org

Kiki Melendez is an actress, writer, producer, host and creator of Kiki Melendez’ most known for the hilarious Hot Tamales Live! – A talent showcases that celebrates diversity in America through performances by comics, sketch artists and dancers produced by Kiki. Under Melendez’s guidance, Hot Tamales Live had a critically acclaimed Premiere debut May 5, 2009 on Showtime Television, America’s leading Premium Cable Network. This TV Special ran full summer of 2009 on Showtime network, returning January 2010. Kiki is known as the Latina OPRAH on general market television!
Kiki studied acting at Lee Strasberg Theater and Film institute and HB Studios in NYC. She went on to produce a groundbreaking theatrical presentation “Latin City” which was critically acclaimed in NYC. She was a member of many prestigious theater groups in NYC and Los Angeles. Melendez has a BA in Psychology. Melendez has written many films and shows which she is most respected in the industry, she is most proud of feature films “Chase Hope and Faith” and “Gina and Blair“, “Exonerating Evidence” and recently Directed and Produced “Latina’s Don’t PMS in Los Angeles” a critically acclaimed show from NYC.
Her first job was as morning hosts for radio stations: La Nueva FM, 105.9 in New York and KRLA, Groove 103.1 in Los Angeles. In 1998, Melendez successfully transitioned from a career in radio to one in television with guest appearances on “The Tracy Ullman Show” on HBO, “The Steve Harvey Show” on the WB, “Strong Medicine” on Lifetime TV and many others. Kiki Melendez went on to star in the award winning movie “Day Shift“, National Lampoons “Cattle Call”, and “Benny Bliss and The Disciples of Greatness“. She has also appeared on HBO’s Tracy Ullman Takes On…, Lifetimes Strong Medicine, NBC’s City Guys, WB’s Steve Harvey Show and more…
She then wanted to produce and created the pilot called Salsa desde Hollywood, Galavision Network picked up the show, which Melendez hosted and produced, for 13 episodes. Melendez went on to have the No. 1 ranked entertainment show on the Galavision Network, Kiki desde Hollywood. It was America’s first bilingual variety show. Melendez held Hollywood reporting positions with the British Broadcasting Company and other international media outlets.
Melendez performed her hit show at the 2008 HBO COMEDY FESTIVAL Hot Tamales Live! was chosen as the closing show to perform at the HBO Comedy Festival at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas on November 17. Melendez goal is to unite all humanity through laughter!
Kiki was named American Latino Pioneer in Entertainment. Kiki was the only female comedienne nominated for the first annual American Latino Awards. She received the prestigious “MAVERICK AWARD” By the Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival in March 2007.
Melendez owns Latin Hollywood Films production company, LHF owns approximately 10 projects which include Sitcoms, Reality shows, Children’s Television and more. She spent her early years in New York City, watching mainstream televisions shows such as The Brady Bunch and Bewitched during the day and telenovelas in the evening.VIP Red Carpet, Screening and Awards Ceremony will be on October, 17 2014 at 7:00pm during the opening night festivities. The Opening Night VIP Premiere will be a coming home documentary by E.Vincent Martinez and Gil Guillama named “Cuba: Finding Dad…Mira tu Papa”. Kiki Melendez film “Journey of a Female Comic” will premiere in Georgia at the Georgia Latino Film Festival with a special introduction by Women in Film and Television Atlanta on October 18th at 7:30pm
